Preserve Your Precious Pieces
Area Rug Cleaning
Area rugs require more specialized care than wall-to-wall carpet. Evergreen Carpet Care provides professional off-site rug cleaning designed around each rug’s fiber, construction, dyes, condition, and cleaning needs.
Our detailed process helps remove accumulated soil, spots, and odors while protecting the rug’s color, texture, and structure. We clean area rugs for homeowners throughout Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, and surrounding communities.
From everyday synthetic rugs to wool, Oriental, Persian, and handwoven pieces, every rug is inspected before cleaning so we can determine the most appropriate treatment.

Convenient Rug Pickup and Delivery
Area rugs are transported to our rug-cleaning facility, where we have the equipment and controlled environment needed to inspect, clean, rinse, and dry them properly.
Contact our team to confirm pickup and delivery availability for your location. We will explain how to prepare the rug, provide an estimated turnaround time, and review any concerns before cleaning begins.
Our Six-Step Area Rug Cleaning Process
1. Detailed Rug Inspection
When your rug arrives at our cleaning facility, we carefully inspect its material, construction, color stability, and overall condition. We also document visible stains, pet contamination, fringe wear, loose edges, previous repairs, and other preexisting damage.
This inspection helps us determine which treatments are appropriate and identify any limitations that could affect the final results.
2. Professional Dry Soil Removal
Area rugs can hold a significant amount of dry soil beneath the surface, including dust, sand, pet hair, and fine debris that routine vacuuming may not fully remove.
Before washing, we use professional equipment to loosen and remove as much embedded dry soil as possible. This important step helps prevent soil from turning into mud during cleaning and allows the washing process to work more effectively.
3. Dye Stability Testing
Before introducing moisture or cleaning solutions, we test the rug’s dyes to identify possible color bleeding, migration, or transfer.
The results help us select the safest cleaning products, water temperature, and cleaning method for preserving the rug’s color and overall appearance. Rugs with unstable dyes or delicate construction may require a modified cleaning approach.
4. Customized Rug Cleaning
We clean each rug using methods and solutions selected for its fiber type, construction, condition, and cleaning needs. The process is designed to remove accumulated soil and address spots, odors, and other areas of concern whenever possible.
Some stains, discoloration, dye loss, fiber wear, and deeply embedded contamination may be permanent. While professional cleaning can often produce a substantial improvement, complete stain or odor removal cannot be guaranteed in every case.
5. Controlled Rinsing and Speed Drying
After cleaning, the rug is thoroughly rinsed to remove loosened soil and cleaning residue. It is then dried in a controlled environment using professional airflow and drying equipment.
Prompt, even drying helps reduce the risk of moisture-related problems such as dye movement, odor, texture changes, and fiber distortion.
6. Final Inspection and Optional Rug Protection
Once the rug is fully dry, we complete a final inspection to review the cleaning results, check the fringe and edges, and identify any areas that may need additional attention.
Depending on the rug’s material, location, traffic, and exposure to spills or sunlight, we may also recommend an optional rug protector. Protection is not appropriate for every rug, so our team will explain whether it is recommended and whether it is included in the quoted price.
Types of Area Rugs We Clean
Our team evaluates each rug individually before recommending a cleaning method. Depending on the rug’s construction and condition, we may clean:
- Wool area rugs
- Oriental and Persian rugs
- Synthetic rugs
- Handwoven rugs
- Machine-made rugs
- Cotton rugs
- Shag and high-pile rugs
- Runners and entry rugs
- Large room-size area rugs
Certain delicate, antique, damaged, unstable, or specialty rugs may require additional evaluation before cleaning. Contact us with the rug’s approximate size, material, and condition so our team can determine the appropriate next step.

Preparing Your Area Rug for Cleaning
Before your scheduled pickup, remove furniture and personal items from the rug whenever possible. Point out stains, odors, pet accidents, damaged fringe, loose edges, previous repairs, or other areas of concern.
Please do not apply additional household cleaners immediately before service. Some products may affect dyes, leave residue, or make professional stain treatment more difficult.
Our team will provide any additional preparation instructions when your appointment is scheduled.

Hear from Our Clients
“Just got my four area rugs back: Very very pleased. Super work, excellent customer service – from first visit/estimate to delivery on time. The rugs themselves are from North Africa, Turkmenistan, Vermont, and Jordan: all handwoven with natural dyes and wool. All have been used in a very dusty climate (worse than Nevada!) for several years. I was a bit nervous but friends had recommended Evergreen’s work on their Persian carpets. Now each one is back to the brilliant deep saturated colors they were when we first got them. Actually, I think they look better than new (we got all but the Vermont one in open-air markets in the country of origin). Thank you Evergreen, I’ll be sending the last of our rugs after the New Year… It was a big chunk of change for sure, but this is one of those Penny-wise/Pound-foolish decisions… Worth every dollar we paid for the work. Thank you so much Evergreen!”
